Computational and Experimental Studies of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids in Organic Solutions for MET Sensor Devices

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

The goal for this research is to gain further understanding of how molecular dynamic interactions affect the chemical properties of ionic liquid solutions for the optimization of molecular electronic transducer-based devices such as seismometers. This project will utilize ionic liquids of varying chain length, such as 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide, [BMIM][I], to observe their chemical properties when mixed with organic solvents such as gamma butyrolactone (GBL) or propylene carbonate (PC). By using computational and experimental techniques the research team will gain more understanding of ionic liquid electrolyte systems that are designed for space applications.
