Characterization and Modeling of Graphene-Nickel Composites at Ultrahigh Strain Rates

Graphene-nickel composites have been considered as a potential candidate for use in the aerospace and defense industries due to their thermal stability and high tensile strength. However, graphene-nickel has not been thoroughly studied at ultrahigh strain rates, something critical for its use in high-energy impact applications. Through this research, the reinforcing mechanisms of graphene-nickel will be characterized specifically for utilizing lateral stress redistribution to increase the energy absorption and hardness of the material. Comprehensive characterization will help enable the use of graphene-nickel in broader applications where extreme mechanical performance is required.
