Automated Magnetic Core Loss Tester
Core loss characteristics in magnetic materials play a critical role in the design of power electronic converters. Manufacturer-provided data on core loss characteristics are often collected over a limited operating range and for an unspecified core shape. Having the ability to directly test magnetic materials is extremely beneficial to the power electronics designer in producing high-performance power converters. In this project, our team extends upon two existing methods for measuring magnetic core loss at high frequency by introducing automation. This will allow for precise data collection across a broad range of medium and high frequencies without requiring manual, time-consuming tuning.
