Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing on Urine Samples Through Object Scattering Intensity

This research project aims to develop a device that can be used to quickly (under 3 hours) identify pathogens along with their antibiotic susceptibilities directly at the hospital, specifically for UTIs. This method of antimicrobial susceptibility testing is a significant improvement over the current method of culturing bacteria, which can take 2-4 days. With this clinical device, patients will be able to get accurate prescriptions much sooner. This will help combat the rise of antibiotic-resistant infections through inappropriate prescriptions, ultimately saving lives.
