Analysis of Sul-1 and Sul-2 Transporters on Sulfur Uptake and Cellular Growth
The goal of this research is to prove that a certain gene in yeast cells provide code for a transport protein that carries sulfur, a necessary nutrient, into the cell. This was done by taking deficient yeast cells and transforming their genome by inserting the DNA that coded for these transport proteins. The purpose of this research is to prove that yeast cells code for the same proteins that human cells do: any genetic conditions or therapies that are intended for humans who lack this transporter can be modeled in yeast cells, and future work will involve studying human cells.
