A Causal Approach to Predicting Medical Conditions in Machine Learning

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

A causal approach to machine learning is currently being investigated to better explain, understand, and apply machine learning models. The focus of this study is to use this causal approach to introspect on machine learning performance in the medical domain so that we can better understand the conditions under which medical machine learning models will succeed or fail. Using medical patient diagnostic data, the goal of this study is to be able to better predict medical diagnoses through the use of machine learning models.
