3D Printing of Stainless-Steel Replacement Piping for Corrosive and Low-Pressure Environments

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

Corrosion is one of the foremost causes of stainless-steel (SS 316L) pipeline failures. In phase II, the corrosion performance of welded Selective Laser Melting (SLM) printed structure is studied along with the mechanical strength using tensile testing. Microscopic characterization is carried out using SEM and measurements of percentage mass loss, modulus, yield strength, and ultimate strength are studied to benchmark the weld strength between wrought to wrought, wrought to 3D, and wrought to wrought (corroded)
