Martin Reisslein

Professor, School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering

Martin Reisslein is a Professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering and Program Chair of Computer Engineering (CEN) at Arizona State University. He received the Dipl.-Ing. (FH) degree from the Fachhochschule Dieburg, Germany, in 1994, and the M.S.E. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1996, both in electrical engineering. He received his doctorate in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. During the academic year 1994-5, he visited the University of Pennsylvania as a Fulbright scholar. From July 1998 through October 2000, he was a scientist with the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD Fraunhofer FOKUS), Berlin, and lecturer at the Technical University Berlin.  From October 2000 through 2005, he was an assistant professor; and from 2005 through 2011, he was an associate professor at ASU.

Reisslein has published more than 235 journal articles and 85 conference papers in the areas of Tactile Internet, including robotics and visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), software-defined networking (SDN), multimedia networking over wired and wireless network, video traffic characterization, optical networking, and engineering education. His Google Scholar h-index is 69, and his ISI Web of Science h-index is 46. He received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award in 2002.

He is currently a Senior Editor for IEEE Access.  He currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Optical Switching and Networking and as Area Editor for Optical Communications for the EEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials.  He served as Associate Editor of the IEEE/ACM Transaction on Networking (2009-2013), and the IEEE Transactions on Education (2013-2022), served as Associate Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (2007-2020), and chaired the Steering Committee of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia from 2017-2019) He has served on the Technical Program Committees of IEEE Infocom, IEEE Globecom, and IEEE ICC.

He is a fellow of the IEEE (Class of 2014) and a senior member of the ACM. He received a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and visited the Technical University Munich, Germany, in 2015. In 2016, he received the DRESDEN Senior Fellowship from the Technical University Dresden, Germany.
