Gender Bias and Desired Career Path Correlation for K-5th Students

While previous research has analyzed the role that gender plays in children’s behavior, is it still unclear whether the awareness of a stereotype correlates to a young child’s predicted desire to pursue an engineering career. Is there an association between children’s gender stereotyped beliefs for engineering and their career aspirations? This study analyzes responses from students in K-5th to evaluate their endorsement of gender stereotypes in engineering and relate it to their desired career path. Findings will inform interventions aimed at promoting engineering engagement in young female students in the form of a lesson plan for an engineering activity.
