Mechanism of NOx Conversion Over Photocatalytic Cement
Photocatalytic materials such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) have contributed to advances in air quality. However, the use of TiO2 to reduce NOx levels has raised concerns for the potential of producing undesired gasses such as nitrous oxide (N2O), a greenhouse gas. The issue of NOx control using TiO2 is particularly relevant given the interest in adding TiO2 into cement for use in building construction. The current research examines the constituent(s) found in cement that may impact the production of N2O, in order to develop a mechanism for and to gain perspective on how to avoid N2O production.
