Understanding the Effects of Gait Adaptation from the Combination of Visual and Split-Belt Distortion
Split-belt distortion is one method of increasing the effectiveness of traditional treadmill rehabilitation, where the patient recovers more quickly through targeted rehabilitation of their paretic leg. Visual distortion has been used in previous studies to greatly impact the effectiveness of gait rehabilitation through visual modulation. Kim et. al. 2012 published a similar study on the use of visual distortion that caused all subjects to modulate their gait symmetry. The effects of combining visual feedback (no distortion) with split belt distortion are being evaluated.
