Automated PID Controller Using LabVIEW for Patch-Clamping Experimentation
Electrophysiology is a powerful technique for the examination of neuronal activity. Previously, a microscope-independent fluorescent-guided electrophysiology system was developed to track neurons for patch-clamping. However, the pressure system did not possess dynamic responses, only providing several options for pressure. By creating a proportional-integral-derivative (PID)-controlled pressure system to integrate into the pre-existing LabVIEW code for the system, higher success rates of patch-clamping may be realized. This project proposes a novel automated PID controller to self-regulate pressure using a closed-loop system to enable better control during whole-cell patch-clamping and ease the successful use of the system.
