A Quantitative Study on the Effect of Rotation Rate on Radiation Heat Transfer in a Rotary Drum

Rotary drums are used in industries such as cement, pharmaceuticals, and other particulate sectors; thus, research on various parameters will increase operating efficiency and lead to energy savings. The current study focused on the effect of particle size on radiation heat transfer inside a rotary drum. The rotation rate was varied from 2-10 RPM with 2, 3, and 4 mm silica beads heating in the drum. It was observed that as the particle size increased, the core temperature increased as well with a smaller core size. The difference in particle bed temperature also decreased with a higher particle size.
